Fitih Alemu Feleke is a lecturer of Journalism and Communication in Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. With a B.A. and M.A degree in Journalism and a number of short trainings, she possesses more than a decade of experience in journalism teaching and research in Jimma and Bahir Dar Universities. Fitih’s experience also entails curriculum development, communication, PR work, training and research in CSOs and Higher Education Institutions. Fitih has also been recently assigned Director of Ethiopian Journalism Educators’ Network (EJEN) of which she is a co-founder. She is now actively working on capacity development and horizontal connection among journalism educators of Ethiopia through EJEN. Fitih has special academic interest in the gender aspect of journalism education, thereby journalism as an essential agent of social dynamics in African societies.

Nazarene Makena is an accomplished academic professional with a diverse educational background, holding an MA in Ethics and Organizational Leadership, a BA in Leadership and Management with a focus on International Relations, and a Diploma in Communication and Media Studies. As an instructor, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of journalism students, imparting essential communication skills. Her commitment to education spans over a decade, with a significant portion of this time dedicated to the Institute of Social Communication, Tangaza University College. Here, her expertise in program development and implementation has been instrumental in fostering a dynamic and impactful learning environment.

Saorla McCabe
Saorla McCabe

Saorla McCabe is an Advisor for Communication and Information Strategy and Policy at UNESCO. She also serves as Deputy Secretary of UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication, a programme that provides grants to media development projects implemented by grassroots organizations in developing countries and countries in transition. Saorla has 20 years of experience working on press freedom issues. Prior to her current post, she was the coordinator of World Press Freedom Day and a programme specialist on freedom of expression and journalists’ safety issues, with a particular interest in the gender dimensions of safety.

Vincent Ryan
Vincent Ryan

Vincent Ryan is the global training manager and EMEA partnership manager at the Google News Lab, a team focused on helping journalists to find, verify and tell news stories. He is a former journalist working on the business desk at The Sunday Times and the Irish Examiner. Prior to joining Google he was a visiting lecturer at City, University of London. While at City University he was part of a research team who received funding from the Digital News Initiative. He has a BA in History and French from NUI Galway and a Masters in Journalism from the University of Limerick.
