ACOS Alliance in partnership with the Committee to Protect Journalists is offering free one to one safety clinics for journalists, editors and news managers attending this year’s festival. These tailored 50-minute consultations, led by international safety experts, are relevant to journalism professionals at all stages of their career who are looking for practical advice and guidance on a specific issue, assignment, story or situation. They are particularly useful for those who already have a basic knowledge of safety.
Individual consultations can cover any of the following topics:
> physical safety and risk assessment
> digital security and surveillance
> online harassment
> legal safety
> psychological safety, trauma management and self-care
> newsroom safety protocols
> safety responsibilities as an editor / duty of care
All clinics must be pre-booked. Places are strictly limited so priority will be given to those who book their spot online before the start of the festival. 50-mins slots are available during the following days/ hours:
> Thursday 10 April: 14:00 - 18.30
> Friday 11 April: 09:00 - 13:30
> Saturday 12 April: 14:00 - 18:30

Mike Christie
Mike Christie is a veteran international journalist who ran editorial safety at Reuters for almost a decade until the end of 2023. He has since set up a journalist safety consultancy, Lechosa LLC, to help media organizations protect their newsrooms against physical, digital and emotional threats. He also designs and runs hostile environment training courses.
Harlo Holmes
Harlo Holmes is the Chief Information Security Officer and Director of Digital Security at Freedom of the Press Foundation. She strives to help individual journalists in various media organizations become confident and effective in securing their communications within their newsrooms, with their sources, and with the public at large. She is a media scholar, software programmer, and activist; and was a regular contributor to the open source mobile security collective The Guardian Project. Harlo is also an adjunct professor at New York University.
Mykola Kostynyan
Mykola Kostynyan is a digital security capacity building project designer and manager, working with organizations who provide digital security assistance to civil society and independent media in Eastern Europe. Mykola has worked with NGOs including Internews, IREX and Digital Security Lab to strengthen the digital health of media and civil society organizations and promote digital safety among civic actors.
