This workshop is designed to equip journalists with the skills needed to effectively use their smartphones for creating professional video packages. Participants will learn how to record, edit, and deliver high-quality journalistic video content using a variety of mobile apps and tools. Workshop outline:
> Introduction to camera apps: brief overview of popular camera apps (free and paid, pros and cons), deep dive on the free Blackmagic Camera App for high-quality video recording, iOS and Android.
> Mobile editing apps: overview of leading free editing apps (iOS and Android pros and cons, Adobe Rush, VN, InShot, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve), overview of paid editing apps (Luma Fusion, Video Leap, Splice), detailed instruction on using Luma Fusion for video editing on smartphones and iPads, demonstration of AI-driven editing apps for fast editing for beginners.
> Essential gear: brief overview of microphones, rigs, and other essential gear for mobile journalism.

Rob Layton
Rob Layton is an Assistant Professor of Mobile Journalism at Bond University on the Gold Coast, Australia. His expertise has led him to work with and be published by Apple, Google, News Corp, and the ABC, among others. He was a career journalist before becoming a full-time journalism educator. He has trained journalists and producers in mobile journalism globally, including for the Australian national broadcaster’s flagship programs, as well as at Al Jazeera and News Corp. His mobile-made short documentaries have been awarded and screened in cinemas and events globally, including the United Nations Ocean Conference in Portugal, NAB in Las Vegas for the Mojo Awards, Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, Global Short Film Awards Cannes, Florida Surf Film Awards, and the San Diego Undersea Film Exhibit.
