In seven years since of existence, Recorder has become one of the most important publications in Romania, producing video investigations, hard news reports and astonishing documentaries that reached millions of people. The content published by Recorder is completely free, but the very close connection with the audience and the quality of the stories made this media outlet not only functional but also an unusual appearance in the European media landscape: with an annual budget exceeding one million euros, Recorder is almost entirely financed by micro-donations and has grown from 4 founders to a newsroom of 25 journalists. Cristian is the visual coordinator of the Recorder, he is passionate about cinematography and music, and often used this tools to make complicated investigations more accessible to the general public.

Cristian Lupsa
Cristian Lupsa

Cristian Lupșa is a storyteller, editor, and founder based in Bucharest, Romania. He is currently the chair of the European Press Prize Preparatory Committee. For 13 years he ran DoR, a digital and print magazine that was an important landmark for Romanian independent journalism until it closed in late 2022. His more than two-decades long career has taken him from Romania to the U.S., and back. He co-founded DoR in 2009, and, in 2011, began hosting The Power of Storytelling, an international storytelling conference in Bucharest. In 2020, DoR won the European Press Prize Innovation award, the culmination of a series of experiments it was known for: from launching new products, business models, and formats, to bringing journalism on stage, to creating community. Cristian is a 2014 Nieman Fellow. These days he writes his newsletter Draft Four, coaches young journalists, consults local and regional newsrooms, and still believes well-crafted true stories can connect people, heal wounds, ...

Alina Paduraru
Alina Paduraru

Alina Păduraru is a reporter and executive manager at Recorder, a Romanian independent video publication. After its launch in 2017, Recorder became one of the most impactful independent media outlets, producing viral video investigations and managing to spur real-life changes in Romanian society. Alina joined the Recorder team three months after the project's launch, contributing to numerous reports on social issues, human rights, poverty, and investigations into sexual abuse. Since 2020, she juggles the dedication to journalism with the role of executive manager for Recorder Community Association, the organisation overseeing donations for Recorder.

Mihai Voinea
Mihai Voinea

Mihai Voinea is a co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of Recorder, a Romanian newsroom whose appearance in 2017 significantly impacted the media landscape. Recorder introduced long-form video investigations, gaining millions of views and inspiring thousands of people to support journalism through donations. Apart from his role as editor-in-chief, Mihai is still trying to find time to be a reporter and create content. In 2019, with Cristian Delcea, he created a three-hour documentary about Romania's recent history, reaching 12 million views on YouTube.
