Boundaries are the limits we set and communicate to protect ourselves. They help us manage our work and wellbeing, as well as to prioritise, delegate and deliver. Headlines Network is an organisation that cares about improving mental health in the media and has since 2020 been facilitating conversations and providing workshops for journalists to support their mental health. In this workshop, its co-directors Hannah Storm and John Crowley will show how they set their own boundaries and encourage journalism colleagues to identify their own. Hannah and John will offer tips and advice around what to do personally or how to support staff who are on the edge of burnout.

John Crowley
John Crowley is a journalist with 25 years of experience, managing teams and budgets across a variety of titles. He was digital editor for The Wall Street Journal in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and has also previously worked in managerial roles for The Daily Telegraph and Newsweek. He is now a co-director of Headlines Network, which exists towards improving mental health in journalism, and works for The Financial Times.
Hannah Storm
Hannah Storm is the founder and Co-Director of Headlines Network, which exists to promote more open conversations about mental health in journalism, through workshops, tips and a podcast. She is also a media consultant, specialising in safety - be that physical, online or psychological - working with news rooms to create spaces where everyone feels safe to share their experiences of mental health and where leaders recognise the value of empathetic management. A sought-after speaker, who shares her own story of recovery from complex trauma, Hannah is the former CEO of the International News Safety Institute and the Ethical Journalism Network, as well as a talented facilitator, trainer and writer. Hannah co-authored the first study into moral injury and the media for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism with Professor Anthony Feinstein and has written extensively at the intersection of gender, mental health, physical and online safety.
