> The vital role of micro-information and its life-or-death implications in Global South contexts.
> The evolving demands of journalists versus the actual needs of their audiences.

> Skills dissemination strategies for fostering journalism that serves marginalized communities effectively.
The session will highlight Al Jazeera Media Institute's extensive efforts in the Middle East and Africa, showcasing successful initiatives and challenges faced in addressing the unique informational needs of these regions.

Palazzo Graziani (Perugia)
Costruzione di origine medioevale Palazzo Graziani è stato sottoposto ad interventi che nel corso dei secoli ne hanno modificato ed ampliato la struttura. Situato in Corso Vannucci, l’immobile è sede della Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio ed ora anche della nuova Fondazione CARIPERUGIA ARTE. Nel 1895 Annibale Brugnoli realizzò quattro grandi quadri ad olio sulle pareti e quattro grandi dipinti murali sulla volta di quello che successivamente venne chiamato “Salone del Brugnoli”, ancora oggi la sala di maggior pregio dell’intero complesso.
Ahmad Abu Hamad
Ahmad Abu Hamad is Media for Development Lead at Aljazeera Media Institute. A meta-journalist and researcher with extensive experience in media, human rights, and public diplomacy, he oversees projects supporting independent media in conflict-affected and economically challenged areas. His role involves strategic planning, advocacy, and fostering partnerships across the Global South to promote media independence and development. As a trainer, he has led workshops on communication in the humanitarian NGOs, refugee stories, and election coverage. He has worked between Europe and the Middle East; He holds a Master’s in Media and Communication Studies from Lund University and a Bachelor’s in Mass Communication from Yarmouk University.
Yafa El Masri
Yafa El Masri identifies as both a refugee and a researcher, a dual perspective that deeply informs her mission to transform refugee experiences in the Middle East. Born and raised in Borj Al-Barajneh, a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, she has dedicated her career to advocating for Palestinian refugees and other migrant communities across the Levant. El Masri is currently a Lecturer in Geography and Global Development at the University of East Anglia, UK. Her work focuses on the intersection of development and displacement. She has led and contributed to numerous research projects exploring the lived experiences and representations of refugees, especially in Lebanon. Her scholarship has been published extensively in internationally recognized academic journals such as Frontiers and Globalizations, as well as in books and edited volumes. In July 2024, El Masri was awarded the prestigious British Society for Middle East Studies (BRISMES) Early Career Prize to transform her research into a monograph. She holds a PhD in Geographic Studies (2023) and an MSc in Local Geographic Development (2019), both from the University of Padova, Italy. Before embarking on her academic journey, she gained extensive experience working with international and local humanitarian aid organizations in Lebanon, enriching her understanding of the communities she now engages with in her research.
