Journalism safety 360: ensuring journalist security in a hostile world

In an increasingly hostile media landscape, it is essential for journalists to have the tools, training, and support needed to stay safe. This session will explore innovative strategies and solutions to protect journalists physically, digitally, and legally — but also go beyond to really prepare your newsroom and provide insight into how to keep journalists safe. Incidents in the OCCRP network have almost doubled since last year and include cases involving spyware attacks, arrests, surveillance, relocations, and other difficulties. By sharing the OCCRP network’s expertise in comprehensively protecting journalists under threat, participants will leave with actionable insights and a deeper understanding of how to safeguard themselves, their teams, and their stories. This session addresses the need for proactive and extensive safety strategies and will empower journalists to continue their vital work, no matter the challenges they face.
