Exactly 15 years ago, Nic Newman wrote the very first comprehensive report on the state of product management in news organisations. Today, we want to take stock and analyse the successes, failures, ambitions and future of the field.
News product management has emerged as a critical discipline, redefining how newsrooms engage audiences, develop innovative products, and build sustainable revenue streams. But what has truly worked, and what hasn’t? This panel brings together leading voices in the field - Nic Newman, Feli Carrique, Mariah Craddick and Anita Zielina - to reflect on the successes, failures, and lessons learned in news product management, while exploring the trends that will shape its future.
This conversation will delve into the strategies that have stood the test of time, the missteps that have hindered progress, and the emerging trends poised to define the next 15 years of product innovation in journalism. Attendees will gain practical insights and a deeper understanding of how product thinking has—and hasn’t—worked to support sustainable journalism.
